Mission Statement:

"empower parents...empower children...give them the control to control their own future"

Students and Lifestart Zambia is a unique organisation set up by five DCU (Dublin City University) students.

An educational programme called Lifestart is the driving material behind the initiative. In June 2006, for approximately two weeks we will travel to Lifestarts Project in Mazabuka, Zambia.

While there, we plan to engage with the deliverance of the programme between family and the parents and children. We plan to exercise the fundamentals of learning with the children in the form of Art, Dance, Movement and Play.

We look forward to really learning from different methods of teaching and communicating in a different culture/country.

Lifestart Zambia have requested that we provide promotional material for the Lifestart programme. We plan to document the visit, the programme, the essence of the great work being carried out in Mazabuka in the medium of a video documentary for two purposes: 1. For Lifestart Zambia to obtain funding and create awareness so that more Lifestart projects can be potentially opened throughout Africa. 2. To use in Ireland to promote awareness of Lifestart Zambia and Lifestart Ireland.

In the larger scale, the true essence of SALZ is as follows:

To give a third-world country your talents and efforts to provide help and improvement is often the main aim of a charitable initiative. Where SALZ differs, is that it is going to concentrate on the encouragement of delivering educational materials at an early age. This educational material is not in the academic sense, but in the fact that the practice of fundamental learning skills have a significant and scientifically proven impact on the development of a child's brain from the ages of birth to five.

For the SALZ team, this theory is the backbone of our endeavour. We are optimistic that this course of action is the most effective way in breaking the current cycle of poverty, death, AIDs and the other factors lending to what makes a third-world country.

"empower parents...empower children...give them the control to control their own future"
